BPK – How to Play Blood Roses (Tori Amos/Pip) Piano/Keyboard
Hello. This is a tutorial for pianists and musicians of all levels for Blood Roses by Tori Amos, a song considered by many to be an absolute favorite and with good reason. Although the song is based on harpsichord to complement its furious grit and stark morbidity, it’s easily recognizable on piano as well. I promised I would make a tutorial for this song and today it is here. Sorry for the delay and for the little bit of fuzz in the audio; I’m not sure why it happened but cameras do the strangest things. The good news is that there will be no fuzz when you play this yourself. 
I didn’t want the video to go over the time limit, so I left out the “You think I’m a queer” part, but I will explain put it here. Same chord progression (g#, B, F#, c#) and G# – D# – C# – B – D#+C# “You – think – I’m – a – Que-er.” For the first note, you can plausibly substitute a D# an octave below the second note (D#) depending on how you feel like representing the song; both are anchoring chord tones in g# min and can get the job done. In the last note/word (“queer”), D# is essentially a grace note resolving down to C#. It’s a little longer though to represent what’s called melismatic vocal phrasing. That is just a fancy way of saying Tori sings one word but that one word includes more than one note; here those notes are D# on the attack and a fast move down to C#.
